Hi guys, I just thought I'd share my good news with you all.

My boyfriend Matt (he's the American in our relationship) proposed to me whilst we were celebrating NYE in Edinburgh. We're planning on getting married next winter with him moving here around August/September.

We're both very happy although he's now back in the States for the next four months.

Hi there all,

I actually joined this group in about 2005, but I am now back, older and wiser, with a new girlfriend and new questions, haha.

Name: Danny

SO's name: Erika
Your ages: I'm 25, she's 21

How long have you been together? Roughly 19 months

How did you meet? Mutual friend from working at an Outdoor Ed centre

Where are you both from? I'm from London, shes from Edison, NJ

Any plans for the future? This is the whole thing, we're at this crossroads (which Im sure many here are familiar with) where we sort of feel like we should start to at least plan the next step otherwise we might be stuck in this long distance relationship forever with no end in sight. We were fortunate enough where we've managed to spend a lot of time together (2 summers working at summercamp, and various visits in between) and we've both come to the conclusion that being apart for months and months isn't the relationship we really want, and that we need to start making some moves to have a proper future.

Anything else you'd like to share with us? That is pretty much our deal!

Any pics? Plenty, how do I make one of those nice and tidy LJ cuts without messing up the place with a million pictures?

Hopefully this works?

Anyway, my main reason for posting was this. Like I mentioned, we want to have some sort of vague plan. At the moment we are both at University, she is in her 2nd year, and I am in my first as a mature student training to be a Teacher. Although the obvious route seems to be to simply wait until we are both graduated, this seems like a crushing amount of time to wait, and we'd love to find a quicker route.

I've tried to do some research before posting here, but everything seems to be wildly overwhelming, and the information seems quite broad considering the specific nature of each relationship. Anyway, being students we obviously don't have much money, and its my understanding that we'd need some sort of steady income to be accepted for anything. However, we would have a place to stay in either country whoever was to move.

I guess essentially, I am asking if there is a way that one of us could go to the other's country even on like a 6 month basis and be able to apply for some sort of work out there. Our main concern is that we don't want to be rushed into a marriage just for the sake of a visa application, but it would be amazing to have a chance to live together for a semi extended amount of time, just to get an idea of how this would really work. I know I could travel over as a tourist, but it would be far more viable if whoever moved where could do some barwork, etc.

Sorry for the rambling nature of this post, its 5.30 in the morning and I just rediscovered this group whilst looking on LJ for the first time in ages, but I was hoping somebody could help me or just give some definitive answers regarding our options.

Thanks all!

Dan

If you find yourself at the crossroads of insomnia and insanity, this is the place to channel those demons that keep you sleepless. Vivid pictures, poetry, ruminations, and confessions from the nether hours between dusk and dawn. Originally formed to celebrate the city at night, there's a strong urban theme.

Self-described as "a little community with a lot of rage," you can soak up impassioned vibes and read blistering exposes detailing sexist attitudes in the news, pop culture, and science! A must-join community if you are, or love, a feminist. (NB: the topic of whether a "man" can be a feminist is outside the scope of this spotlight, but will probably wind up on the Writer's Block.)

i cant find my member stats on here but here's a little background info.Im in the US and my bf is in england. We have been together for over 8 yrs and we both want to move ahead with getting married and starting the finace visa process.I have researched a bit before but since he is moving here and we are going ahead with it i need to get more in depth of finding as much info about this as i can.I have a few questions that i couldnt seem to find on here. Can we get married while the k1 is being processed or do we have to wait until everything is approved and if so how long do we have til we have to get married? For the successes out there how long did it take to get everything approved for the k1? i know it takes longer for some and short for others i was just curious. Also im still living at home but have a full time job and make a pretty good salary so does it look bad being the supporter if im still at home even though i make enough money to support us? and lastly once the papers are approved and we get married how long until he can work? if so what do we have to apply for for him to be able to work in the us? Im sorry if all of this has been covered but im tryin to get as much info as i can before i start this whole process.Knowing that many of u have been through it and are with ur s/o gives me so much hope.thanks :)
